24 Hour Consent

State Regulation regarding Termination decree that a Patient must be notified of the following information 24 hours prior to the time of surgery:

• a full medical explanation of the nature, benefits, risks and alternatives to the abortion procedure
  
• given instruction that patient may withdraw consent at any time prior to the performance of the procedure
  
• have the opportunity to speak with the physician who is to perform the abortion so that the physician may answer any questions that the patient may have and provide further information concerning the procedures and protocols.
  
• given the probable gestational age of the fetus (how many weeks pregnant) at the time my abortion is to be performed.
  
• offered the opportunity to review the printed materials provided from the Department of Health. If patient has chosen to review such materials, this information was provided at least 24 hours before the abortion or mailed at least 72 hours before the abortion by the first class mail, or certified mail / restricted delivery.

NOVA Healthcare provides flexible methods for patients to abide by state regulation. Patient can have the 24 Hour Consent Consultation in person or by phone. Phone calls must be made at least 24 hours in advance.

Surgery in the Morning

If you are having Termination Surgery in the Morning (IV Sedation or Local):

The night before your appointment, do not eat or drink after 12:00 midnight. Do not eat or drink anything the morning of surgery.

If needed, you may have a sip of water before 6 am, but absolutely no food that morning. After 6 am, please refrain from drinking and continue to refrain from eating until after the procedure.

Do not chew gum or have candy in your mouth. It is very important that you follow these instructions. If they are not followed strictly we will not perform the procedure and you will have to be rescheduled.

Prior to arrival, please take a cleansing shower.

Wear comfortable, loose fitting clothing and low or flat heeled shoes. A warm sweater may be welcomed.

Bring a Photo ID for age verification. The Photo ID can be several different identification pieces issued by the Federal, State or Local Government. Identification from other countries will be accepted as long as they are issued by current government.

Please bring any medications you are currently taking or should have in case of medical need such as an inhaler for asthma attacks.

Bring a driver to drive you home. You cannot drive until 24 hours after surgery. There are no exceptions; patients will be escorted at all times.

Please plan to be at the center any where from 2 - 3 hours.

Surgery in the Afternoon

If you are having Termination Surgery in the Afternoon (General or Local):

The morning of the appointment you can eat only Bananas, Dry Crackers and drink only Water until 7am. Do not have any dairy products. Do not drink alcohol or caffeinated drinks. Do not have gum or candy. After 7am do not eat or drink any thing. This is very important.

Prior to arrival, please take a cleansing shower.
